Training covers primary eye care services which can include diagnosis and treatment of vision related conditions. They are allowed to prescribe corrective eye glasses and contact lenses. They are not licensed to perform eye surgeries.

Optician

Opticians are technicians trained to design, verify, and fit prescription eyeglasses and frames, contact lenses, and other vision correction eyewear.

Procedures and treatment that each type of eye care expert is allowed to administer may also vary from one state to the other or from one location to the other. For instance, procedures and treatment allowed to be administered by ophthalmologists or opticians in Troy, Michigan may not be the same as the set of procedures and treatment allowed to be administered in other locations.
