Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about LASIK

• Question:  Who Can be treated with the laser?
• Answer:    Individuals above age eighteen that are nearsighted, farsighted and/or have astigmatism.  (Top Page)

• Question:   How do I know if I am a candidate for LASIK?
• Answer:    You can attend a free screening which takes approximately 20 minutes.  The screenings are performed in Detroit, Southfield, or Taylor office locations.  (Top Page)

• Question:    Will my insurance cover the treatment?
• Answer:      You will need to check with your own insurance company.  Some policies will cover the treatment.  (Top Page)

• Question:    Where is the procedure done?
• Answer:       At the excimer laser center in Troy on Livernois and Long Lake Road.  (Top Page)

• Question:    How soon can the treatment be scheduled?
• Answer:       Usually within one or two weeks of your initial exam.  Contact lens wearers will need to wait longer because they need to stop wearing their lenses to allow their eyes to reshape naturally prior to the treatment.  (Top Page)

• Question:    What is the recovery time?
• Answer:       Most people are able to return to work within 24 to 48 hours after the treatment.  (Top Page)

• Question:    Are there any complications?
• Answer:       No medical treatment can guarantee 100% success.  Like any medical treatment there is a slight chance of complications.  These will be reviewed in detail during your examination.  (Top Page)

• Question:     Do I need to Stop Wearing Contact Lenses Before the Exam?
• Answer:       Soft contact lenses should not be worn for 7 days before the exam and the LASIK while gas permeable contact lenses should be removed at least 4 weeks before the exam and the LASIK. (Top Page)
